Baltistan Culture Tour
BALTISTAN is known as “Little Tibet”, heartland of the greatest assembly of mountains that stand on this earth. There is no higher land in all over the world than this once forgotten, unknown kingdom. Its highest point reaches 8611 meters and there is nothing below 1500 meters. Baltistan is land of high mountains, longest glaciers on earth outside the polar region, sand dunes, quite lakes, and the unique high plateau of Deosai plains. Its borders on the Chinese province of Xinjiang and Indian occupied Kashmir. Apart from its incomparable cluster of mountain peaks and glaciers Baltistan five valleys Skardu, Shigar, Khaplu, Rondu and Kharmang are noted for their delicious peaches, apricots, pears and apples. Skardu is the gateway to the mountains peaks of Karakoram. Skardu has historic fort known as Kharpocho Fort. It was constructed by Ali Sher Khan Anchan, who ruled from Ladakh to Chitral till the end of the 16th century. The two lakes Satpara Lake 8 kms, and Kachura Lake 30 kms from Skardu are ideal for boating and fishing.
The Balti people speak an ancient form of Tibetan and have a strong and fascinating culture. A journey to their mountain homeland is a unique opportunity to meet them and to see some of the highest mountains not only in Baltistan, but also in the world.
DAY-01-ISLAMABAD: Arrival Islamabad
and transfer to hotel for o/n (B/L/D)
DAY-02-CHILAS: Drive to Chilas, on Karakoram highway, along the narrow gorge of
mighty River Indus. During journey to Chilas, we will make many stops for Lunch,
Tea and photography of the stunning mountain scenery. On arrival Chilas,
transfer to hotel for o/n (B/L/D).
DAY-03-SKARDU: Drive to Skardu, o/n in hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-04-SKARDU: Sight seeing of Skardu city. After breakfast in hotel, we will
walk to the Satpara lake, which is about 8 kms from Skardu city and after
visiting the Satpara, we will walk back to Skardu city, en-route we will visit
the Buddhist Rock, the only surviving rock with Buddhist carving which is
located on Skardu-Satpara road. After lunch in hotel, we will visit the lake
Kachura which is about 30 km from Skardu city, and back to Skardu. Sight seeing
tour Skardu bazaar and o/n in hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-05-KHAPLU: Drive to Khaplu, and o/n in hotel. The beautiful valley of the
Shyok River, many famous mountains such as Masherbrum, K-6, K-7, Saltoro Kangri,
are located here. The capital of this valley, distinctively Tibetan in its
people and architecture, is spread out along the greenest and broadest bowl of
the valley, and arena that for the non-trekkers it is the key point of the
entire visit to Baltistan. The ever-changing landscapes follow the sandy valley
floor, black mountains reflecting in the waters of Shyok River. On the slopes,
little communities have carved their terraced fields and homes out of the
mountainside, diverting the waters along a network of ancient irrigation
aqueducts. (B/L/D).
DAY-06-KHAPLU: We will visit the surrounding villages of Khaplu, along the Shyok
river, and also walk through the ancient town of Khaplu and o/n in hotel
(B/L/D).
DAY-07-SKARDU-SHIGAR-SKARDU: Drive to Skardu and further drive to Shigar valley
by jeep and sight seeing there. Shigar is picturesquely set in a lush green
valley and enjoys a pleasant climate. One can still see several old houses with
beautiful architectural designs. There are a few mosques built in the Tibetan
style, with carved panels round the wooden doors. Shigar is the gateway to many
adventurous treks and expeditions that lead over highest peaks and longest
glaciers. Drive back to Skardu, o/n in hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-08-CHILAS: Drive to Chilas, o/n in hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-09-ISLAMABAD: Drive to Islamabad, o/n in hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-10-ISLAMABAD: Sight seeing tour of Rawalpindi and Islamabad city, o/n in
hotel (B/L/D).
DAY-11-DEPARTURE: Transfer to Islamabad airport for fly to your destination and
